Indian Railway Refund Rules


Refund you can get across the counter within the prescribed time limits.:
I.Prescribed time limits for refund
    1.Confirmed reserved tickets: upto 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train irrespective of the distance. No refund will be granted after  that.
    2.RAC/ waiting list/ partially confirmed Ticket: upto half an hour before the scheduled departure of the train irrespective of the distance. No refund will be granted after that.
   3.Train departure between 21.00 hours and 6.00 hours (actual departure): you can get get a refund within two hours of opening of the Reservation Office, in case no current counters are available at the originating station.
II. Refund fare under circumstances like Bandh or agitations or floods etc... :
     1.Passenger could not reach the reservation counter or station or current counter for cancellation of tickets in this case a TDR(Ticket Deposit Receipt)shall be issued to the passenger and the passenger may apply for refund of fare within ten days from the day of commencement of journey to The Chief Commercial Manager (Refund) of the railway administration under whose jurisdiction the TDR issuing station comes, enclosing the original TDR.
    2.The TDR shall be issued only upto 3 Days after the scheduled departure of the train.
III. I am unable to approach the concerned authorites :
    1.In exceptional circumstances you may obtain a TDR from the nearest major station within 3 days from the day of scheduled travel to The Chief Commercial Manager(Refunds) of the Zonal Railway to which the ticket deposit receipt issuing station belongs. The application must be submitted within 10 days from the date of your journey. the refund officer will examine the case on maerit and, if decided, refund will be sent to you by a station pay order or money order or crossed cheque.
Will the entire amount be fefunded or will lose some money?
    The fare you paid for your ticket will be refunded after deducting cancellation charges in case of confirmed tiket and clerkage Charges in case of RAC/ WL/ Unreserved Tickets, if the tickets is surrend within the prescribed time limit as per fefund rules.
Cancellation Charges :the amount deducted is based on the time of cancellation and the status of your ticket.
1. If morethan 48 hours advance of the scheduled departure of the train for confirmed tickets.
Cancellation Charges per passenger Ticket Class
Rs. 240/- First AC/ Executive Class
Rs. 200/- 2Tier AC/ 1st Class
Rs. 180/- 3Tier AC/ AC chair car, 3AC Economy
Rs. 120/- Sleeper
Rs. 60/- Second Class
2.Less than 48 hours and upto 12 hours for confirmed tickets.before the scheduled depatrure of the train, the cancellation charges will be 25% of the total fare paid by you subject to minimum flat cancellation charges.
3.Less than 12 hours and upto 4 hours for confirmed tickets.before the scheduled depatrure of the train, the cancellation charges will be 50% of the total fare paid by you subject to minimum flat cancellation charges for each class.
4.RAC/ Waitlisted tickets.Ticket is presented for cancellation upto half an hour before the scheduled departure of the train irrepective of distance, full refund of fare will be given, after deducting the clerkage charges per passenger.
